Petcoke Prices Surge Further w.e.f 01.10.2026 by Nayara Energy Ltd. Amid Global Energy and Supply Concerns
Nayara Energy Ltd. has increased the price of petcoke by ₹2,180/- PMT w.e.f. 01.10.2026, taking the basic price of petcoke Ex-Vadinar to approximately ₹20,960/- PMT, compared with ₹18,780/- PMT in September.
This sharp increase comes against a backdrop of continued geopolitical tensions, disruption to global energy flows and tightening availability of refined petroleum products. Brent crude moved above $100/barrel at the beginning of October, reflecting renewed concerns about supply disruptions.
The situation is not limited to crude oil. The global diesel and middle-distillate market is particularly tight. The International Energy Agency has reported substantial losses in refined-product exports from the Gulf, while global oil inventories have also been falling.
What could happen in the coming months?
The approaching winter season could add another layer of pressure on the global energy market. Seasonal heating demand, combined with already-tight fuel inventories, may increase competition for available petroleum products and energy supplies. The EIA expects global oil inventories to continue declining through the end of 2026, while distillate inventories are also expected to remain under pressure.
At the same time, continued geopolitical uncertainty, restrictions on fuel exports from some major suppliers and possible disruptions to shipping routes could keep international energy prices volatile.
For Indian industries dependent on petcoke and other petroleum-derived fuels, this combination of higher crude prices, tight refined-fuel supplies, freight/logistics uncertainty and seasonal demand could translate into continued pressure on input costs.
Our Outlook
While the exact direction of petcoke prices will depend on developments in the US-Iran conflict, crude prices, refinery output, international freight and domestic demand, the current fundamentals suggest that petcoke prices are likely to remain elevated and volatile in the near term.
Summary: the petcoke market has entered October with considerably higher costs, and the next few months could remain challenging as global energy markets navigate geopolitical uncertainty, seasonal demand and tight fuel supplies.
